Tours / Birding and photography in Lima
Just in the department of Lima, more than 300 species of wild birds can be found.
The wetlands and coastal hills loma ecosistem, the Andean slopes and the sea, all of them near
the city can be discovered on one day or several days trip.
Here we propose three options for full day tours :
South Lima, Pucusana, Chilca and Lomas de Asia
Travel with us for a fabulous day. We will first go south to Pucusana Bay for a boat excursion around the Island,
where a colony of Humboldt penguins lives; In addition we will be able to spot and photograph sea birds, sea lions
and, if we are lucky, dolphins and sea otters!
Among the birds of this day we have: Inca Tern, Peruvian Meadowlark, Black Skimmer, Humboldt Penguin, Many-colored Rush-tyran,
Peruvian Pelican, Red-legged Cormorant, Blue-footed Booby, Peruvian Sheartail, Amazilia Hummingbird, Rufescent Flycatcher.
At noon we will make a stop on the tour to have lunch at a restaurant near the Pucusana.
Central Lima, Santa Eulalia
This option allows you to find the best birds and capture beautiful photographs of them while enjoying spectacular landscapes. The trip is towards the Andes. After reaching the Santa Eulalia Canyon, at 2,000 meters above sea level we will meet the great Inca finch (E=endemic), the black-necked woodpecker (E), the Peruvian pygmy owl and the Pied-crested Tit-Tyrant. Weather permitting, we may encounter the endemic Black Metaltail (E), Bronze-tailed Comet (E), Rusty-bellied brush-finch (E) and we will look for the elusive Rufous-breasted Warbler Finch (E).
North Lima, Lomas de Lachay
The other route to choose is Lomas de Lachay, an Oasis within the desert of the Pacific Coast. It is close to Lima and is home to a large number of bird species
according to the season.
We have the Coastal Miner (E=Endemic), Thick-billed Miner (E), Cactus Canastero (E), Raimondi's Yellow-Finch (E), as well as beautiful hummingbirds Oasis Hummingbirds,
Peruvian Sheartail, Purple-collared Woodstar.
